Meditation and Kriya Yoga
Paramhansa Yogananda taught four main techniques for spiritual development. The Energization Exercises, the Hong-Sau technique of Concentration, the Aum Meditation Technique and the Kriya Yoga meditation technique.
The Energization Exercises and the Hong-Sau technique are taught to all beginners. The Aum Technique should be learned once the first two techniques have been established as a daily activity (usually in 3 to 6 months). Kriya Yoga preparation classes are usually started after 6 to 8 months and the Kriya Yoga Initiation is offered to those who have been practicing with regularity for 8 months to a year. These time frames are offered as a guideline. Each person’s timeline is unique to their own life.
It should be understood that this is not a race. Each person should move forward with honesty and sincerity as they prepare themselves to receive new techniques. To learn Kriya Yoga without having prepared yourself properly is like throwing seeds out onto an uncultivated field. The chances of high success are greatly diminished.
These techniques are offered to people of all races, nations and spiritual backgrounds with the recognition that God contact is the essence of all true religions.
